 East St. Louis

East St. Louis has a semi-rural character with small towns and farms scattered throughout. It has been a major manufacturing center. East St. Louis is home to Gateway Arch National Park.

The Arch is a huge stone structure. It is located about 30 miles from downtown St. Louis. It stands over 1,600 feet high. The arch is famous for being the focal point of the Grand Terrace and the world-famous Arch Shows. The arch is surrounded by shopping and restaurants, which give it a bustling atmosphere. East St. Soulard is a nearby town.

The Gateway Arch is an obelisk of over 630 feet, designed by Leo Kroll, built between 1936 and 1961 in Louisville, Kentucky, and dedicated as the gateway to the city. The arch was commissioned by Earl Warren, Governor of Illinois, and was completed in 1957. The name of the arch was inspired by the St. Louis Arch, which was designed by Effinger & Rose. The arch is located in Jefferson Park and is open daily from 8 a.m. until midnight. On November 17, 2000, the arch was designated a U.S. National Monument.

A local Native American tribe, the Illiniwek, or the "Gurnee" people, called the land around what would later be known as St. Louis home. When the first Europeans arrived in the region, they found the Native Americans living there, and their settlements included villages in the river bottoms along both sides of the Mississippi River. Some of these were as far north as the confluence of the Ohio and Mississippi rivers. One of the most notable villages, or towns, was Cahokia (also spelled Cahokia, Cahokee, or Kaskaskia), located in what is now St. Clair County, Illinois, near the present-day town of Collinsville.

East St. Louis is the second oldest city in the United States. It is located in Illinois. East St. Louis is known for its rich history, as well as its cultural heritage. The city is home to two large parks, one of which is named after Virginia Mayo. This park has a sports complex, playgrounds, walking trails, and tennis courts. The other park is named after Washington Park. This park has a bandstand, amphitheater, and picnic tables. It has two golf courses and a disc golf course. East St. Louis has a baseball stadium, a football stadium, and a skateboard park. The people who live in East St. Louis are diverse.

Captain James Piggott, a Revolutionary War soldier, was the man who first established the city of East St. Louis in 1797. He was a captain in the army during the war and later served as a civil engineer and surveyor. He was a man of action. When he came back home from the war, he worked hard to improve the lives of the people of his community. When he came back, he found out that many people were living on boats and barges along the Mississippi River. Many people from the south lived in the river bottoms. Captain Piggott realized that he needed to provide a way for people to cross the river. He built a ferry and made sure that it was safe and efficient. Jordan Wireless is near here proximity.
