Berlin Township, NJ

 Berlin Township is a township in Ocean County, New Jersey, United States. It was incorporated on April 1, 1988. The population of the town was 6,9631 at the 2010 Census.[12] As of the 2000 U.S. census, its population density was 17,066.0 per square mile (10,759/km²). There were 3,8971 housing units at an average density of 8,652.0 per square mile (33,110.0/km²).[13][14]


In the early 20th century, a smallpox epidemic killed many residents of the village, and it is the only place in the state to bear that name. In fact, the entire town is named after Benjamin Franklin’s son, who died from complications due to the disease.


The name "Berlin" comes from the German word for freedom or liberty; the original settlers used the name because they wanted a location where people could live freely without being oppressed by the British government.

It's a small town in the middle of nowhere. There are no grocery stores, restaurants, gas stations, pharmacies, banks, post offices, police departments, fire departments, or hospitals.


There are two churches, one Catholic Church and the other Lutheran church. Both are very old.


The school system consists of three schools. One elementary, middle, and high school.


The nearest hospital is in Woodstown, New Jersey, approximately 16 miles away.


In addition to the above, there is a large lake in the area. It is used for fishing, boating, swimming, and ice skating.


You can find a lot of history here, in the city of Berlin Township. During World War II, the German Army built a secret underground city beneath this area. This is where they trained soldiers for the war. After the war ended, the Germans moved out.


Today, you'll still find many things that the Germans left behind. Some of these include bunkers, tunnels, barracks, machine shops, armories, gun emplacements, command posts, guard houses, latrines, and even a crematorium.


There are a number of different types of lakes in the world. The largest by far is Lake Superior, which stretches across North America from Canada down to Michigan. Lake Superior is about 1,500 miles long and covers an area larger than Texas. Lake Ontario is also very large – it's almost twice as big. And then there are some really tiny lakes like Lac de Bienne in Switzerland. These are known as glacial lakes. They're formed when glaciers scrape away rocks and soil during the wintertime. As this happens, the water slowly seeps into cracks between the rocks until it reaches the surface in the spring. The result is a lake that is often just inches deep.


There are lots of interesting things to see on this particular lake. One thing you can do is take a boat ride. You can visit any of the towns along Lake Superior or cruise around the entire lake. It’s quite beautiful. Another fun activity is ice fishing. Ice fishing is basically fishing with a hole cut into the ice of the frozen lake. People use special rods and lines attached to metal hooks. If you want to try this, you can rent equipment at most sporting goods stores. You'll need several feet of line, a few weights, and a hook. Then you wait for the fish.
